Curbside Trash and Recyling Service - Priority

RE: Notice of Change of Curbside Trash Service Provider (Republic to Priority), and the addition of Curbside Recyclables Service.

 

Dear Resident,

 

      On May 15, 2023 the Corunna City Council awarded Priority Waste a five (5) year residential trash & recyclables contract. The final pickup day for Republic will be Monday, June 26. Republic has asked that residents leave their Republic cart at the curb for the remainder of the week. Republic will be back to collect their empty cart later in the week. Please do not put anything in the Republic cart after the final pickup.

 

      Priority Waste weekly residential trash pickup will begin on Monday July 3, 2023.

New carts will not have been delivered by July 3rd. Curbside customers will need to put trash at the curb in garbage bags for the first Priority Waste pickup on July 3rd.  Priority Waste Carts (Trash & Recyclables) will be delivered between July 5th and July 7th

 

      Priority Waste every other week recyclables pickup will begin on Monday July 10, 2023.

 

Please review the following information:

 

      Trash, rubbish or garbage: Priority will provide weekly cart service collection for solid waste materials resulting from house maintenance and cleaning, including cold ashes, paper, cardboard, non-recyclable metal containers, bedding crockery, floor sweepings, empty paint cans with lids removed, rags and other items, or litter of any kind including “Recyclable Materials” that may be a detriment to the public health and safety, and garbage such as rejected food wastes including waste accumulation of animal, fruit or vegetable matter used or intended for food or those items for the preparation, use, cooking, dealing in or storing of meat, fish fowl, fruit or vegetable.

      In addition to the contents of the ninety-five (95) gallon cart, priority will collect additional loose bags of excess trash outside of the cart.

 

      Bulk Item Pickup: Bulk items are defined as items that are too large to fit into a trash cart or bag. Customers may disposal of up to three (3) bulk items at curbside per residential dwelling unit per week. This includes large pieces of furniture, bed springs, mattresses, appliances (including stoves), refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, etc. and sometimes referred to as "White Goods" and other discarded materials properly prepared for pickup that are incidental to the usual routine of housekeeping.  Priority will not pick up freon containing items unless there is a sticker evidencing that the freon has been removed on the item.

 

      Recyclables or "recyclable materials":  Materials such as newspapers, junk mail, paper, glass, metal cans, plastics, aluminum, grayboard and other materials designated by the City will be picked up in a separate cart every other week. No trash is allowed in the recyclable’s cart.

 

      Days and Hours of Collection: Contractor shall collect all rubbish and recyclables on Monday. Collections shall not be started before seven (7:00) a.m. nor continue past eight (8:00) p.m. Unless express permission is given by an authorized representative of the City, refuse shall not be collected on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  If a regularly-scheduled pick-up falls on one of the holidays listed, collection for that day will be delayed by one day. If a holiday falls on a weekend your schedule will not change.

 

      Residential Trash and Recyclable Containers: Priority will provide one (1) ninety-five (95) gallon wheeled cart (Blue Cart with Blue Lid) for residential trash collection and one (1) ninety-five (95) gallon wheeled cart (Blue Cart with Yellow Lid) for residential recyclable collection to each residential dwelling unit enrolled in Corunna Curbside Refuse Collection. Carts must be placed curbside with the cart wheels/handles facing the residence, and without obstructions that might interfere with the automated cart collection. Corunna residents can purchase one (1) additional trash and/or recyclables cart and the monthly collection fee will remain the same.

    

      Hazardous Waste: Shall mean an accumulation of liquid automobile products, mercury batteries, gardening pesticides, weed killers and poisons, personal and health care products especially aerosol containers, paint cans with paint, household products including oven cleaners, acid, chemicals, poisons and aerosol cans. Priority Waste does not pick up hazardous waste.

 

      Excessive waste: Excessive waste at the curb will be rejected (i.e., litter abatement an eviction/move out collection, construction debris). In such cases materials are deemed excessive to the standard scope of service.

 

      Service Fee: The revised fee for all services listed above is $13.65/month for the 2023/2024 fiscal year, and this new amount will first appear on your Quarterly Utility Bill in October.
