The commission is comprised of Five (5) members comprised of Four (4) at-large members  appointed by the Mayor upon confirmation by City Council, and One (1) Coouncilperson selected by the Corunna City Council. The term of appointment is for Three (3) years. All members must be residents of the City of Corunna.

As adminisistrative officials of the city, the commission is responsible to the City Mnager for the performance of their duties.

The commission shall have full power and authority over all trees, plants and shrubs planted or hereafter planted in the streets, highways, parks and public grounds of the city, and upon lands within the control of the city.

Furthermore, the maintenance of such trees, plants and shrubs shall be subject to such rules and regulations as the commission may adopt, and the commission shall have the right to add new rules and regulations from time to time as may be required for the proper care of such trees, plants and shrubs.

It shall be the responsibility of the commission to study, investigate, counsel and develop and/or update annually, and administer a written plan for the care, preservation, pruning, planting, replanting, removal or disposition of trees and shrubs in parks, along streets and in other public areas. Such plan will be presented annually to the city council along with the department's proposed budget and upon its acceptance and approval shall constitute the official comprehensive city tree plan for the city.
